This week, the courier bell rang downstairs. By the time I made it to the door, the parcel had been left on the mat and the driver vanishing down the drive. Picking up the heavy package, I saw it was addressed to Che so zipped upstairs and that’s when I learned a new word – ‘squeed’. Che opened the parcel to find the newly published book “Gamer for Life”, an art book put together by many amazing artists to help raise money for cancer. She posted later of her excitement and wrote ” …and I squeed just a little when I saw I had a full page haha xD”
This book ‘Gamer for Life’ is a fan art book produced by Gamers for Good, a nonprofit organisation based in Los Angeles. It is filled with 476 donated art pieces from 283 game artists, who came together from around the globe with the purpose to raise funds for the fight against cancer. So far the book has raised $67,760USD from 1,068 people in 1 month and Che has a whole page in it. Brilliant!
Gamers for Good formed in 2012 for those who knew and loved Kevin Kanai Griffith (KKG), a Blizzard Diablo 3 artist, to bond together and take action to support his battle with ASPS cancer. Their efforts soon spread across the globe.
Gamer for Life consists of fan art from Kevin’s top 10 favorite games created by game artists from all around the world. Unfortunately in Oct. 2014 KKG passed away, as the content for the book was completed. They decided Kevin would have wanted them to see this through, so they continued production on the book as tribute to him and as an opportunity to show off the great positivity that can come from Gamers in action. His legacy will continue on in the form of this book made by his friends and fellow game artists.
Gamer for Life – this book is only available as a ‘thank you’ gift after a donation The proceeds of this campaign will be spilt between 2 cancer organizations, CureASPS.org and GameChanger.
